In the late 90s, Simon was obsessed with Animorphs by K.A. Applegate – the young adult sci-fi book series about five American teens who turn into animals to fight aliens. In 2017 he returns to the series to see if they live up to his memories in a nostalgia trip that is “equal amounts funny and charming” (Adelaide Theatre Guide). He also turns himself into a rabbit.
Following a multi-award winning season at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, Animorphed by Simon Vaughan makes its triumphant return to Sydney. Part theatre, part stand-up comedy, part grown man trying to turn himself into an adorable creature, Animorphed is about breaking the rose-coloured glass through which we view our childhood and trying to put the pieces back together.
“Simon Binns is funny, boyishly enthusiastic, and takes the audience with him on a nostalgic adventure into his rapidly disappearing uncritical years.” – ★★★★ Adelaide Advertiser
“More stand-up comedy and a friendly chat than true theatre, this is a wonderful way to spend an hour.” – ★★★★ Adelaide Theatre Guide
“A sterling show… Full of heart, with solid storytelling and a hint of whimsy, it totally won over this middle-aged man with an OCD tick that still knows where his own book collections are stashed.” – Festival Freak
Running time: 60 minutes
