Dates: Thursday 27th – Saturday 29th July
Performer, visual artist and general atrocity Tom Christophersen’s fascination with the paranormal began when, as a child, his father encountered spirits. These family stories were the foundation of a long term project that saw Christophersen traveling Australia, interviewing and recording accounts from people who had also brushed up to entities from another world. Without judgement and with a flair for storytelling and theatricality, Christophersen has woven fragments of these accounts into a live performance that playfully teeters between fears of the uncanny and tension-breaking laughter. Visually captivating, Business Unfinished presents our relationship to unexplained phenomena as both a love for a good story, as well as an artistic investigation into how we might use art to reconcile our past.
Tom Christophersen is an accomplished multidisciplinary artist with recent projects including performance invigilation for Marina Abramovic’s 2015 Sydney residency (Kaldor Art Projects) and performing in Alexis Teplin’s Arch: The Politics of Fragmentation (Biennale of Sydney, 2016).
Originally developed as part of PACT Centre for Emerging Artist’s 2014 Vacant Room Residency, Business Unfinished premiered at Newcastle’s CRACK Theatre Festival in October 2015 and in March 2016 headlined The Q’s Minigras Festival, run in conjunction with the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre and Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
